The point is that Valve has to recognize the problem with the net-code and to fix it! This thread is for all the cyber-athletes that see CS:S as a sport and matching each other on tournaments and leagues.

The game is because of the current net-code-bugs NOT competitive!


The Computers reached on every single test fps. The dedicated LAN-Server was located in my personal home-network and provided a constant tickrate. These Values are forced on LANs and events.

However the results of the tests are transferable to the internet and nearly identical! But on LAN you still have the best premises.


However this is no problem on LAN, because every player has got a ping under 15ms! On the internet the players has got a ping from 25ms and higher. And here Valve comes into play! I am not going to get all fancy and explain it like a robot. I will have to explain just a tad about updates and stuff to make interp easier to understand for you. Hopefully I can explain the netgraph Lerp part which valve has already made pretty good to help you know when you should raise your interp setting or not.

The updates we will be talking about will be all the updates the server sends to your computer client. These updates hold information on where players are located and what shots have been fired at you as well as if your shot hit someone. These updates hold other things too basically they hold all the information that is going on in the game.

Interp aka interpolation basically happens on the client not the server. When this happens interpolation goes back in time and takes updates and makes an estimation on what the update or updates you missed would most likely be.

What this means is that interpolation will go back ms in time to take what updates it has saved up and estimate what happened in game and replace any updates you missed. This helps your game play stay smooth and without warps and jerks. So knowing this and looking at the fact you should be getting 66 updates a second from a 66tic server. You would have around 6 updates to use to estimate this. I would think that having more updates to use for estimation would be ideal. This may or may not be true.
